First, I’ll try and do some more of these answers at a later time. I saw this stuff dragging so I posted what I had already written.
I’ll try to get more of this done, but until things settle down a bit, this is what I’ve got.
Additionally, ot seems that some of you might be disappointed [...]
Here are a few cherry picked questions, rewritten to be answerable by me.
“How is working for SOE for a developer ?”
Kick ass actually.
I worked there for almost 6 years and got to work with some of the best people I have ever worked with A great experience.
I left, not because of anything they [...]
So I’m in DC for a week or so for work. Post some questions here about the NGE stuff. Keep them polite and I’ll see if I can post a followup answer to the best ones (or as many as I can get to).
So good, it seems that trying to be honest about things doesn’t work well.
Instead, let’s talk about funny UO anecdotes.
This is one from a year or so ago that I recovered from an old blog backup. Feel free to add your own.
I worked on UO for around 4+ years for my career (started [...]
After continual thought, I still think this is a worthwhile discussion. I am cleaning out some of the assiness so we can maybe have a legitimate talk.
If I have ever created something that you didn’t like or that brought

But we never make them. We all want to but don’t have the time or the resources.
So all designers have dream games. We bandy them around but tend not to [...]
Pretty valid, but I think Money for Items is more acceptable and integrated. Bad Company’s press hit with their content purchases shows some other problems. This 2 parter is pretty MMO specific though.
First, Go Read this rant sent to the gaming “press” by angry Lineage 2 players.
Then come back here and read some profanity.

Still valid, overly focused on WOW.
Nobody in their right mind says “FPS” alienates the casual gamer nowadays. They gibber about the core gamer something something.

Attention to all developers.
If you’re making a World of Warcraft style game, stop it immediately.
I mean it. Diku mud content, phase based combat, abstractions of the game world, lots of [...]
I’m going through the old archives I’ve got and migrating my old posts to the new blog.
Some are still applicable, but I want to give context to the newer posts.

Well not giants, but Raph at least.
Raph posted a great analysis of the Station Exchange white paper.
Go read it now. I’ll wait here .
The most telling [...]
I’m going through the old archives I’ve got and migrating my old posts to the new blog.
Interestingly enough, this post isn’t that applicable anymore unless you work for hooting morons.
Most devs are a lot savvier with how they work with the casual/core/whatever gamer market.
So I’m much less angry about this issue than I used to [...]
